An alumna of the prestigious Instituto
Episcopal San Cristóbal Band in Panama, Mrs. Saavedra earned
a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Panama, a Bachelor of
Music from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, and a Master of
Music from the University of Illinois. An experienced band and
orchestra player, she has been a member of most professional bands in
her hometown Panama including the Municipal Band, the Band of the
National Police of Panama, and the Republican Band of Panama.
Additionally, she has performed with the Bayamón Symphony
Orchestra, the State Band of Puerto Rico, the Filarmonic Choir (San
Juan, Puerto Rico), and the Choir of the Conservatory of Music of
Puerto Rico. Highlights of her chamber music career include tubist of
the Gravíssimo Tuba Quartet and performances with the
Chamber Music Group of Panama "Clarinon."
As a teacher she has enjoyed a position with the St.
Mary School of
Panama. Her passion for the arts also includes collaborations with the
Dance Company "Dramadanza" in Puerto Rico.
She is currently pursuing her second masters degree in
Ethnomusicology
at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and studies privately
with distinguished tuba player Dr. Michael Forbes of the Sotto Voce
Tuba Quartet.
